As triathletes and endurance athletes, we are usually very busy people trying to juggle family, work and training. Sometimes a social life is thrown in for good measure – if we are lucky. A cooking technique that I feel is very important to learn is how to stir-fry. Stir-fry’s allows for one pot dishes that are fast and full of veggies. One of the first things you will need to get started, will be a stainless steal or cast iron Wok or sauté pan. These are very important to a successful stir fry. After purchasing one of these items you then only have these 3 simple steps to follow:
1. You must be willing and get the wok/sauté pan very hot. Heat it on high for a few minutes and then add canola or peanut oil. You need oils that have a high smoke point for a stir-fry.
2. Add ingredients in stages. An overcrowded pan will steam the ingredients and not keep them crisp so be careful.
3. Make your sauce and add it into the pan. This is the final step in most stir-fry’s.
4. Serve with brown rice or some rice noodles.
