Back in December, Dwight came and sat down next to me when I was working one afternoon. I knew something was up right away and was spot on correct when he informed me that he had some work in Germany for 2-3 months starting in January/February. Well, I had only one request: I needed a kitchen if I was going to be able to join him.
His company said sure, you guys can get an apartment instead of living in a hotel. Score! Think about it for a second, the 2 of us with bikes and stuff for 2-3 months in a hotel room…. Ummm, yeah, that wouldn’t have ended well.
I Googled apartments in Schwelm and found this little one we are in. It was sufficient enough. I had a kitchen with a big window, a bedroom, a living room, a washer and storage for our bikes. We were good to go.
Well, I wasn’t quite aware of just how tiny the kitchen was. I mean, I knew it was going to be little, but this is really small. All of our plates, glasses and bowls are in the living room cabinets. I knew my cooking was going to be a challenge considering I have 1 knife, 1 pot, 1 saute pan and 1 baking dish that I went and bought. But whatever, challenge accepted!
I’m able to cook almost anything I want. I’ve made tacos, lots of Indian food, braised foods in the deep baking pan. I even entertained one night for Dwights boss and one of his workers. I did a Spanish Osso Bucco and a big antipasto starter.
It’s really not bad at all. I definitely need to be a little creative at times and it can at make things challenging, but it’s all ok. I have my tiny little German kitchen and I am still able to knock out some great food!
