The versatility of it is really amazing. You can throw it on a burger during the summer grilling season or toss it in with some hearty greens during the winter for some “kilt n’greens”; a southern classic. A little bit goes a long way with this super rich and savory jam recipe so you don’t have to feel to terribly guilty about eating it.
Bourbon & Maple Syrup Bacon Jam Recipe
- 1 pound bacon
- 1 red onion, diced
- ¼ cup + 2 tablespoons whole grain mustard
- ¼ cup maple syrup
- ¼ cup bourbon
- 2 tablespoons molasses
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees and line a baking sheet with aluminum foil. Line the bacon up on the baking sheet, trying not to overlap the pieces. Bake for 30 minutes.
- When the bacon is crisp, reserve some of the bacon grease and place in your sauté pan. Sauté the onion for about 10 minutes. You want it do be slightly caramelized. Crumble your bacon and add into the pan with onion. Cook for a few minutes. Add in the mustard, maple syrup and molasses. Cook for about 5 minutes so it all comes together. Add in the bourbon and simmer on low for about 15 minutes.
