It seems that the east coast has been blanketed in some crazy ass warm weather this winter. It’s kinda sucky because it’s winter and it’s going to be 70 for Christmas. Ugh. However, it has made for some fantastic training weather! With my ankle/hip almost completely healthy, I ran with the whole not getting all my work done so I could go out and play/train these past few weeks. Oops 😉
However, the best thing ever for my mountain biking skills (or lack there of) has been this weather. You see, I suck at mountain biking for several different reasons. The first being that I never ride my mountain bike. The second being a giant wuss on the mountain bike because of reason number 1. See how this little cycle could possibly not be the greatest thing? Well, I’ve been going out a lot more. Probably around 3x a week so I’m getting braver and better at it. Very important things! One of the better days out riding was when Dwight and I went down to DuPont. We found a couple fun, flowy and fast trails. Then, we went and looked at waterfalls. Why you might ask? Because for some weird reason, I’ve never sought out going to the waterfalls.
I didn’t stop with the mountain biking these past few weeks either. Being almost healthy means I’ve been putting on the running shoes about 5-6 times a week. Kinda depending on what is bothering me or not. I’m going out of my way to not run myself into a serious injury…. One of the things Dwight told me back when we decided to train for Mitchell, that I was going to have to run the toll road in whatever conditions there we had, rain, sleet, snow and it seems, 70F sun. Yay! I went up there for my long run this past Sunday and it was a really good run…. up to the last 1.8 miles which is when I blew up at an epic proportion. It was the longest 23 minutes of mostly downhill ever. I’m obviously going to have to pay closer attention to my nutrition while I’m out there and when I’m. So, as much as I love Taco Billy, a couple tacos and a beer may not be the greatest thing ever for recovery… All the time 🙂
